"The Zealot is all about religious fever. He's all about the Raven God and believing in the Raven God 100% … It's beaks, it's feathers, it's death, it's destruction."

Karak Eight Peaks is, fittingly, named for the eight mountain peaks that surround the former Dwarf stronghold. The city itself was constructed at the bottom of a large depression, creating a natural amphitheatre. The exterior of Karak Eight Peaks serves as an imposing example of Dwarf engineering, for the very mountain peaks themselves form the crenellations of their battlements. However, the interior of the city, with its massive, ornately-wrought walls makes the inviolate nature of its outer defenses pale in comparison.
Karak Eight Peaks became a bastion of Dwarf strength in the southern regions of the Worlds Edge Mountains and an important stop on the trading routes from Karak Azul to the Dwarf holds of the north. Thus, it was all the more devastating when the fabled city fell.
‘Eight Peaks’, as the greenskins call it, is now the seat of power of the Bloody Sun Boyz, and the city bears little resemblance to the great Dwarf hold that it once was. Orc graffiti stains the walls, and piles of refuse line the avenues. Intricately-carved statues are defaced with crude totems and ragged banners, and the delicate filigree of gold and gromril that once adorned the high walls has been chipped and gouged out.
Deep within the fortress, Warlord Grumlok waits as tribes of Orcs and Goblins from across the Old World journey to the fallen hold to join the gathering Waaagh! When his army has grown mighty enough, Grumlok will lead his horde on a path of conquest that will take the greenskins to the very gates of Karaz-a-Karak. There, they will attempt what no other greenskin Waaagh! has been able to do – conquer the capital city of the Dwarfs. |

This month we profile the Empire starting zone of Nordland.
|
| |
 |
| |
| |
More than any other subjects of the Empire, the Nordlanders know what it means to live under the shadow of Chaos. The Barony of Nordland lies but a short sail across the Sea of Claws from the havens of the Northmen. Constant incursions by these savage barbarians are nothing new to the Nordlanders; they have withstood assaults from the hordes of Chaos for centuries. The people of Nordland are as tough and uncompromising as the rugged land in which they live. This might be due to the rumored mixing of their bloodlines with those of the barbaric Northmen. Perhaps because of these rumors, Nordlanders seem to go out of their way to prove their loyalty to the Empire.

You Beta Get a Move On!
An Animation Development Diary at the Halfway Mark
By
Jeremy Dale, Lead Animator

For WAR, I want characters to really feel like they know how to use their weapons. The one thing I don’t want is for everyone to idle, fidget, flinch, and run around with a weapon in their hand in the same manner they would do when unarmed. People just run differently holding an axe than they do with a sword. It's an attention to detail issue.

The written word is going the way of the dodo as we go hi-tech with our new Production Video Podcasts. Each month, we’ll go behind-the-scenes for an insiders look at the development of WAR.

This month we join our intrepid host, Associate Producer Josh Drescher, as he risks life and limb with Brad Derrick, Lead Sound Artist for Warhammer Online, for a look at the creative process of making music for WAR. As you’ll see, it involves fancy computers, expensive software, actual musical instruments, parking garages, and driving with no hands on the wheel. It’s a dangerous process that results in a killer soundtrack. Don’t do this at home!
